For Information: in light of the bogus police alert.
This is a public service announcement
made in light of the other post made today
After what happened I did a little research this is the result:
If you have had unreasonable treatment by a police officer or you feel that a person is not a real officer you do not have to let them in and a real police officer will be willing to wait while you confirm their identity with the local station. Upon request they should be willing to give you thier badge number and in most cases their name as well.
If the person claiming to be police is plain clothed they will show you their warrant cards which will include badge number and photo.
Do not be afraid to keep a police officer waiting while you confirm who they are. It is far better they be delayed 15 minuets than any one end up dead.
If you feel you have been treaded badly by the police your first point of contact could be your local CAB office.

If you would rather make your complaint then you can contact the IPCC (Independent Police Complaint Commission) who will investigate your complaint.
You can make a complaint if you are a member of the public who:
- Has been the victim of the misconduct by a person serving with the police. Misconduct could include a police officer or member of police staff being rude to you or using excessive force. It could also include unlawful arrest or an abuse of your rights.
- Was present when the alleged misconduct took place, or close enough to see or hear the misconduct, and as a result suffered loss, damage, distress or inconvenience, or was put in danger or at risk.
- Is a friend or relative of the victim of the alleged misconduct, distressed by the effects of the incident on the victim.
- Has witnessed the alleged misconduct.
- Is acting on behalf of any of the above. Please note that if you would like someone to make a complaint on your behalf, you must give them your consent in writing unless they are from a body such as a Citizens Advice Bureau.
